L-3 wins $92.2 million contract to design and manufacture large advanced mobile power sources (LAMPS) for the U.S. Army

L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its Westwood division has been awarded a contract to design and manufacture the next generation of 100 kW and 200 kW generator sets, known as Large Advanced Mobile Power Sources (LAMPS), for the U.S. Army. The initial $11.5 million delivery order will provide Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) over a 32-month period. Additionally, there are three production options (for a total of up to 36 months) with a contract ceiling price of $92.2 million.

Alcatel-Lucent increases capacity of MAYA-1 submarine data link between Florida and Colombia

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) is to upgrade the MAYA-1 submarine cable system – which spans 4,400km distance in a collapsed ring from Hollywood, Florida, US, to Tolu in Colombia – quadrupling the activated data capacity to address growing demand for bandwidth-intensive services, as well as position the Caribbean as a critical hub for communications between North and South America.

Eaton Corporation plc completes acquisition of Cooper Industries to form premier global power management company

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation plc (NYSE: ETN) and electrical equipment supplier Cooper Industries plc (NYSE:CBE) today announced that Eaton has completed its acquisition of Cooper. The acquisition was announced on May 21, 2012 and combines Eaton and Cooper into a new, premier global power management company named Eaton Corporation plc.
