Madem was founded in March of 1949 in the city of Bento Gonçalves, RS, Brazil. Initially, Madem manufactured wine barrels. In 1971, it launched production of wood packaging, pallets, and reels dedicated to carrying wire and cable. In 1975, the Rio Negro, PR plant was opened to manufacture wood reels.

Japan 09/10 copper cable shipments seen down 7.9 pct

Japanese copper wire and cable shipments in the year to March 2010 are expected to fall 7.9 percent from a year earlier to an estimated 705,000 tonnes, an industry association said on Thursday. Japanese copper wire and cable shipments amounted to an estimated 49,500 tonnes in February, down 32.4 percent from a year earlier, the Japanese Electric Wire and Cable Makers’ Association said.

USA Wire And Cable Announces First Solar PV-Rated Cable

USA Wire & Cable Inc., based in Austin, Texas, has introduced USA SOLAR CABLE, which the company says is the first photovoltaic-rated cable for the solar energy industry. This new cable will conform to UL’s Photovoltaic Technical brief and specification UL 4703. Voltage ratings available are 600 V, 1000 V and 2000 V.

ABB commissions switchgear rated at more than one million volts

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has commissioned a switchgear rated to handle more than one million volts (1,100kV), touching new heights in terms of global voltage levels. The ultrahigh-voltage gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) has a switching capability of 6,900 megawatts, which means it can turn power equivalent to the average electrical consumption of Switzerland, a country with more than 7 million inhabitants, on or off within milliseconds.
