Milan, 29th September 2008 – Prysmian Cables & Systems, a worldwide leading Group in the sector of cables and systems for energy and telecommunications, has been awarded, in consortium with Siemens Transmission & Distribution Ltd, a contract worth a total value of 87 million Euro to supply the electrical package for the new 300MW Thanet offshore wind park, to be constructed in the North Sea. When completed, Thanet will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm project. Prysmian will develop the connections between the wind park’s one hundred turbines, as well as the high voltage submarine power links to the mainland British power grid. Prysmian’s share of the contract is worth around 36 million Euro; Siemens will supply the onshore substation and the offshore substation.

Energy-saving LED street lamps will be trialed in Auckland from next month. The trial will establish comparative energy efficiencies and relative costs with traditional sodium vapour lamps. North Shore City Council transport infrastructure group manager Phil Consedine said that rapidly increasing energy costs and sustainability initiatives were behind efforts to introduce greater efficiency into street lighting. Maser has supplied it’s newest LU Series products to the council. High power LED light sources are extremely efficient returning a 50 to 80% saving over conventional sodium or mercury lamps without emissions harmful to the environment.
