Cairo, Egypt: In line with its expansion of capacity across the board, El
Sewedy Cables injected an additional US$ 12 million into El Sewedy Cables Syria. This
investment will be used to increase the capacity of the Syria plant by 6,900 tons to reach 24,000
tons by the beginning of Q4 2007.

El Sewedy Cables Syria is capitalizing on Syria’s proximity to Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon in
addition to serving as an export base to Saudi Arabia. El Sewedy Cables has witnessed a
significant increase in demand from Saudi Arabia and will serve the growing demand both from
its plants in Egypt and Syria until the Group’s Saudi Arabia plant becomes operational in 2008.

The capacity expansion in Syria is in line with the Group’s strategy of increasing capacity in low
cost environments.

Siemon Adds New 10Gb/s MC© Patch Cord to its 10G 6A™ F/UTP Line of Network Cabling Solutions

New screened RJ45 patch cords feature removable colour-coding clip and ultra-slim boot with “cantilevered” latch protection for high density environments. Siemon announces the next generation of their popular category 10G 6A F/UTP (screened) MC patch cord. These new 10Gb/s capable, RJ45-style cords feature a unique colour-coding clip feature. Available in a variety of colours, these snap on clips can be added or removed while the plug is inserted or disengaged, allowing greater flexibility in patch field identification and management. To view a brief video of the 10G 6A F/UTP patch cord in action, please visit: http://www.siemon.com/go/6AFUTP

Siemon’s 10G 6A F/UTP MC cords feature an ultra-slim boot, allowing tight side-stackability in high density patching environments such as blade servers. The boot provides an integrated “cantilevered” latch protection feature that not only limits snagging when removing cords, but also allows the latch to be operated from further back on the plug. This allows easier installation and removal of the cords in high density switches and patch panels. The redesigned plug also features an enhanced strain relief boot that ensures proper bend radius while maximizing flexibility and ensuring excellent boot retention. This robust feature, coupled with Siemon’s patented cross-pair metallic isolator and 360 degree crimp, maintains cable pair geometry and eliminates deformation, resulting in higher transmission performance. As part of a 10G 6A F/UTP end–to-end channel, Siemon’s new MC cords meet or exceed all 10GBASE-T standard requirements, including all alien crosstalk parameters.

ABB wins $45 million power order in Angola

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won a $45 million contract from Angola’s Empresa Nacional de Electricidade (ENE) to connect the electrical grids in the northern and central parts of the country.

ABB’s delivery will contribute to a reduction in CO2 and NOx emissions from fossil fuels by enabling more hydropower generated in the north to be fed into the central electrical grid. The availability of reliable, quality power will support economic development in the central region and create job opportunities.

“Reliable supplies of electricity are an essential ingredient of economic growth,” said Peter Leupp, head of ABB’s Power Systems division. “We are very pleased to work with ENE to connect people in Angola with a stable source of power that will help to improve the nation’s living conditions.”

The power system will comprise two substations, in Gabela and Quileva, and a series compensation system to be installed at Gabela. The system will be controlled and monitored with a MicroSCADA installation to help prevent disturbance, plan power consumption, and provide control over the power supply with real-time data from the substations.

The MicroSCADA control system will also be prepared for integration with a planned national control center.
