Belden Inc., headquartered in St. Louis (Missouri, U.S.A.), has consolidated its affiliated Belden Europe (Venlo, The Netherlands), HEW-Kabel (Wipperfürth, Germany), Hirschmann Automation and Control (Neckartenzlingen, Germany) and Lumberg Automation (Schalksmühle, Germany) companies into the newly formed business unit of Belden EMEA. Its operational headquarters will be located in the greater area of Stuttgart (Germany). Dr. Wolfgang Babel, who already headed Hirschmann and Lumberg Automation, was named President of Belden EMEA. Together, with more than 2,200 employees worldwide, the four companies combine comprehensive expertise in the field of data transmission. Besides a broad portfolio of copper and fiberoptic cables as well as automation components, Belden EMEA will – in future – also provide solutions for the communications technology in automation. To this end, the business unit plans to further complement its activities with proprietary developments as well as through acquisition. Turnover, which totalled approx. EUR 550 million in 2007, is expected to be doubled within the next few years.

These new products feature 10μ” (micro inch) gold plated contacts, which provide for maximum economy while retaining 3M’s high standards for performance and reliability, making them ideal for high-volume, price-sensitive applications. DSM Engineering Plastics has announced a new addition to its Arnitel® line of copolyester thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) that is designed to meet the stringent performance and compliance needs of today’s automotive designers. Arnitel® C, a breakthrough technology for wire and cable coating, delivers the best high-heat aging performance of any TPE-E, combined with halogen-free flame retardance and hydrolysis resistance that surpasses that of other copolyester elastomers. Thanks to its excellent abrasion resistance, this new material offers designers the ability to reduce the weight and mass of wiring and cable through ultra-thin-wall coatings. As a consequence of the fact that Draka’s important automotive customers (Tier 1 harness suppliers) in Spain are relocating their production facilities to low labour cost countries in North Africa and Eastern Europe, the Board of Management of Draka Holding N.V. announces that it has decided to close its factory in Vigo (Spain), which is part of its Automotive & Aviation division.
