Malaysia sticks to undersea power cable plan across South China Sea despite firm pullout

Malaysia’s government will pursue plans to build undersea power cables linking Borneo to the mainland even though Malaysian conglomerate Sime Darby has pulled out from the project, a Cabinet minister said Thursday. Second Finance Minister Nor Mohamed Yakcop said the government would seek new contractors to continue with plans to transport electricity from the Bakun hydroelectric dam in Sarawak state on Borneo.

Prysmian led consortium is awarded 168 million euro contract for power transmission project by Qatar General Electricity & Water corp.

Together with nexans of france, prysmian will design and supply a power transmission system of Total 161 km of High Voltage cables.

Prysmian’s part of the contract is worth approximately 87 million euro.

Milan, 30 June 2008. A Prysmian led consortium has been awarded a major order for a total value of around 168 million Euro for a power transmission system expansion project by the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA). Prysmian’s part of the contract is worth around 87 million Euro.
