Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, is featuring its Plug and Play™ AnyLAN™ Systems at the 2008 BICSI Winter Conference in Orlando, Fla. The all-encompassing preterminated fiber optic cabling solution can be deployed in both inside and outside plant local area network (LAN) applications.
Plug & Play AnyLAN Systems feature a multimode or single-mode optical cable pre-installed with network access points at customer-specified intervals and a tethered, environmentally hardened MT connector. Once distance measurements for network access point locations are obtained, the preterminated system is manufactured and tested. The entire system is then packaged and shipped to the customer on a cable reel for immediate deployment in the desired indoor or outdoor application.

Plug & Play Universal Systems are preterminated optical fiber cabling systems that dramatically streamline the process of deploying an optical network in data center environments. Featuring a standard insertion loss of 0.75 dB on modules and harnesses, the system provides the best standard insertion loss in the industry and allows customers to better meet the strict budgets demanded by today’s systems. The low-loss system, consisting of modules, trunks and extender trunks, harnesses and jumpers, features MTP® to LC Connector and MTP to SC Connector modules and harnesses with a maximum loss of 0.5 dB. The low loss system provides architecture design flexibility while providing additional loss margin, making the solution ideal for customers designing systems with data rates of 10 Gb/s and beyond.

The innovative product set incorporates Corning’s new Zero-U System into CPI’s TeraFrame™ Family of Cabinets for superior cable management and ease of connectivity in high-density storage area networks (SANs).As a result of this collaboration, Corning Cable Systems and CPI are introducing a product set that uniquely manages optical fiber trunk cables, harnesses and modules within the data center cabinets that house SAN electronics. In traditional installations, the jumper cables needed to make port connections are routed along the side of the cabinet, which can block airflow and make it difficult to administer moves, adds and changes (MACs). Corning Cable Systems and CPI have developed this efficient solution to maximize rack space.

Corning Cable Systems U-Space System, part of the solution and a complement to its Plug & Play™ Universal Systems, features optical harnesses mapped directly to line cards with port counts ranging from 16 to 48. With port mapping from the MDA patch panel to the SAN director, the U-Space System simplifies the customer’s design process and reduces infrastructure installation time. The high-density trunk cabling and harness solution can eliminate more than 75 percent of the bulk cabling congestion in cabinet vertical managers and in the director backplane, promoting air circulation, increasing deployment velocity and improving the manageability of future moves, adds and changes.
