Habiaflame2 fire resistant cable protects critical safety circuits

Thursday, Aug 27, 2009
Habia Cable is now offering an improved range of fire resistant wires and cables under the Habiaflame brand, in order to meet the requirements of the latest international fire and flame performance approvals.

Habiaflame2 is a durable, fire & flame resistant cable designed for use in very high temperature areas and for the protection of critical safety circuits in industries such as steel, aluminium and glass production. With a peak temperature of 1565°C Habiaflame2 is the ideal solution where in the event of fire vital equipment needs to remain operational. The excellent fire performance of the cable allows extra time for equipment to be saved or shut down limiting unnecessary damage.

With over 25 years experience manufacturing the Habiaflame range of fire resistant cables, Habiaflame2 is tested and approved to the latest fire resistant cable standards including:
- IEC 60331-31 – flame with impact at 830°C for 120 minutes
- IEC 60331-21 – flame at 750°C for 90 minutes
- IEC 60332-3-24 Cat C – flame propagation
- BS 6387:1994 W clause 11.2 – flame at 650°C with water spray
- EN 50200 – PH120

The cables are designed with nickel plated copper conductors with a resisting barrier tape of Mica that is insensitive to heat and will not propagate fire. The single wire or multi-core cable is then surrounded by a woven glass fibre braid which is impregnated with either a standard or halogen free topcoat. Both topcoats are highly temperature stable and protect against chemicals and liquids.

Other improvements include:
- Standard single cable sizes from 5mm² up to 70mm².
- Multicore & Custom versions (on request)
- Stronger, bolder colours for ease of identification
- Improved surface finish for chemical & liquid protection
- Flexibility – bend radius of 10 times the outer diameter of the cable
- RVH version that is halogen free

Habiaflame wires and cables also have obvious advantages over types of high temperature cables. With a lifecycle that is many times longer than many other high temperature cables the replacement of these cables is less frequent. This offers considerable cost savings together with a reduced threat of breakdown situations and lost production.

“The improvements to our Habiaflame range now allows us to offer a high performance, flexible and durable solution for the protection of safety and mission critical equipment that can be tailored to our customers individual requirements” commented Clive Sharp, Vice President of Industrial Products at Habia Cable.

Habia Cable is a Swedish wire and cable manufacturer with a global presence in more than 40 countries and is part of the Beijer Alma group of companies.
