NEC wins order to build underwater data cable between Singapore and Indonesia
NEC Corp. said it has been awarded a contract by Indonesian telecoms operator PT Indosat to build an underwater data transmission cable between Singapore and Indonesia. The cable will be 1,330 km long and will connect several islands between Indonesia and Singapore. It will have initial capacity of 160 gigabits per second, which will be able to be increased to 640 gigabites per second and then to a maximum 1.28 terabits per second, NEC said. The cable is expected to be operational from June 2009.
