Growth through solar projects and in shipbuilding Lapp Group invests in Korea
Stuttgart – The Lapp Group – which has its headquarters in Stuttgart – is stepping up its commitment to Korea. Only a few days ago the leading international manufacturer and supplier of highly flexible cables, conductors, cable accessories, industrial connectors, cable kitting and communications technology opened its expanded facility in the Seoul metropolitan area, which now comprises production, warehouses and office space.
The company Lapp Korea Co. Ltd. manufactures and develops products specially customized for the Korean market. The Chairman of the Managing Board Andreas Lapp: “In Korea we are seeing rising demand, and above all in the fields of shipbuilding and solar technology.” The new production facilities allow the Lapp Group to satisfy this rising demand on the Korean market, and to comply with local standards and certifications.
The Lapp Group has already been active in Korea for 15 years. Initially Lapp worked together with an importer, but for three years now the Stuttgart-based company has also been independently represented in Korea. The Lapp Group is represented by the managing director Michael Collet and his team. Michael Collet has been working in Asia for ten years already – at first working for Lapp in Singapore for five years, and for the past five years for Lapp in Korea. Thus the Lapp Group has a very experienced manager at the head of its Korean company.
Lapp employs a workforce of some 75 in Korea. “The expansion of our branch office is a sign of our commitment to the Korean market,” stressed Michael Collet during the opening ceremony, at which the new facility of Lapp Korea, which covers some 4,000 square meters, was presented to employees and customers and to representatives from the worlds of politics and business. The investment sum was approx. 4 million euros. The facility uses state-of-the-art technology to manufacture products to meet local needs in compliance with the toughest quality requirements (“Made by Lapp”).
With over 40,000 individual products the LAPP Group ranks among the most significant international suppliers for the fields of mechanical and systems engineering, automation technology, and measurement and control technology, among other things for the automotive industry, as well as electrical, installation, transport and energy technology. Well-known globally are the brands ÖLFLEX® connection and signal cables, UNITRONIC® data cables, HITRONIC® fiber optic cables, SKINTOP® cable glands, SILVYN® cable protection sheaths, FLEXIMARK® labeling and marking systems, EPIC® industrial connectors, ETHERLINE® components for active network technology.
The Lapp Group employs a total of some 3,000 staff in 39 sales companies and at 17 production facilities, and has ca. 100 foreign representatives worldwide. It is one of the leading international manufacturers and suppliers of highly flexible cables, conductors, cable accessories, industrial connectors, cable kitting and communications technology. The planned sales revenues for 2007/2008 are 1.2 billion euros.
